UNITED STATES: Snowbowl comment period closed

The U.S. Forest Service closed its public comment period for the draft environmental study on Arizona Snowbowl ski resort on April 13, despite requests from Navajo, Hopi, and 11 other tribes to extend the deadline for an additional 60 days. The tribes oppose snowmaking at the resort because the San Francisco Peaks, on which the resort operates, are sacred to the tribes. A Forest Service spokesman declined to estimate a date for the completion of the final draft environmental impact statement.
