UNITED STATES: Proposed Indian trust bill promises worthwhile reform

A group of legislators in the House and Senate, with the backing of several tribal leaders, introduced a bill on Friday, July 25 to reform the federal government’s management of Indian trust funds. The bill proposes higher standards and more tribal involvement. More importantly, it seeks to override the ongoing BIA/OST reorganization, which has been loudly criticized by tribal leaders.
