UNITED STATES: Federal court won’t get involved in Oneida evictions

On August 8, U.S. District Judge Norman Mordue ruled that the federal government has no authority to override the Oneida Nation’s decision to demolish the homes of four tribal families. The New York Tribe’s government says it plans to demolish houses deemed unsafe as part of a “beautification” campaign, but the homeowners claim they are being unfairly treated for criticizing tribal leaders.
