UNITED STATES: California tribe protests Water 2025 conference

Members of the Yurok Tribe, joined by environmentalists, fishermen, and members of the Hoopa Tribe, protested government water policy outside a conference at the Sacramento Hilton Hotel on Thursday, July 10. The conference was held to discuss the federal government’s new “Water 2025” plan. The tribe and its supporters contend that the government diverts too much water from the Klamath River to irrigate farms, decimating the region’s salmon population. The tribe is also frustrated by the lack of consultation on the proposed plan.
