The Banyarwanda and other pastoralists who have been temporarily settled in the wetlands of the Teso region for several months are awaiting eviction while the government’s notice is translated into their respective languages. The six month grace period stipulated by the government is up, and the pastoralists will be forced to move on as soon as the orders are translated into Kinyarwanda, Ateso, Maasai, Runyankore/Rukiga and Kupsabiny. Officials have told the pastoralists to find other land to settle, but it’s unclear where they will go.
