There has been some progress in discussions over handing back the Preminghana area in north-west Tasmania to the original Aboriginal owners. Currently, the area is maintained by the Tasmanian Aboriginal Land Council (TALC), but other local organizations feel that the Aboriginal people themselves would be more suited to manage the land.
