The Consorci per a la Normalització Lingüística, which offers free Catalan language courses for immigrants in the region, has documented a 27 percent increase in demand for courses over the last five years. A Catalan official stressed the importance of effectively responding to the increased demand in order to sustain continued knowledge of the language.
