SLOVAKIA: New Anti-Discrimination law to benefit Roma Minority

A new law, passed on May 20 by the Slovakian government, bans discrimination based on sex, race, religion, health, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. This law is expected to benefit as many as 500,000 Slovakians, but especially the Roma minority, whose number is estimated at over 200,000. The Roma suffer from limited access to schools, jobs, and healthcare. The European Union recommends that all countries to be included its expansion adopt similar mandates.
