After vocal attacks on the proposed Camisea natural gas pipeline project from indigenous peoples and environmentalists, the Washington, DC based Inter-American Development Bank is sending a team to review the project. They will report their findings in Washington on August 27. The Inter-American Development Bank and the U.S. Export Import Bank are the project’s main funders. The project, Peru’s largest energy project yet, would likely destroy portions of the Peruvian Amazon and negatively impact the health and livelihoods of the areas indigenous peoples.
