PERU: Government reports document indigenous deaths resulting from Camisea gas project

Two leaked government reports written by the Energy and Mines Ministry and Health Ministry detail the negative impacts of the Camisea gas project in the Amazon region of Peru. One report claims that as a result of the project, 22 indigenous people died between May 2002 and May 2003, and 30 percent of the Nanti tribe have died since 1995. The Energy and Mines Minister would not comment on the reports, but said that no one has proven that the project has caused any deaths.
