NUNAVUT: Inuit film successful in Canada, commercially released in US

‘Atanarjuat’, Inuktitut for ‘The Fast Runner’, features an all-Inuit cast, and has met with success in Canada after a warm reception at the Cannes Film Festival in 2001. Now the film has been released in New York City, and will eventually make its way to other US cities. The film, which is the first full-length film in the Inuit language, is based on an Inuit folktale and features traditional, hand-sewn costumes made by residents around Igloolik.
