NUNAVUT: Census reveals enormous growth in jobs, young workers

Statistics Canada, the government’s census agency, has released new numbers from its 2001 census showing growth in jobs in Nunavut since the 1991 census. From 6,670 jobs in 1991 to 9,380 in 2001, the employment rate has gone from 51.8% to 56.2%. Despite this improvement, the numbers still serve as a stark reminder of just how far there is to go before everyone in Nunavut who wants a job can get one. Of interest, as well, is the average age of Nunavut workers: 36.2 years old, the youngest average in the country. Saskatchewan, by contrast, has the oldest workers, at 39.8 years on average.
