NIGERIA: Protesters force closing of oil facility

As a result of protests from indigenous communities, Royal Dutch Shell has closed one of its primary oil pumping facilities in the village of Warri in the Niger Delta region. The protests, which have consisted of peacefully occupying the oil facility, began in response to Shell’s refusal to invest any of their profits from oil extraction into the local communities. The protestors say they will continue the occupation until Shell agrees to build a much needed road.
