Ogoni and Ijaw leaders have condemned the government’s new policy of focusing on offshore oil exploration at the expense of existing onshore sites. The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) and the Ijaw National Congress claim that the move offshore is a sign of the government’s abdication of its economic responsibilities to the people of the Niger Delta region.
