Leaders throughout the Niger Delta are speaking out against the Supreme Court ruling last month which declared all off-shore natural resources to be sole property of the government. From state governors to youth group activists, regional leaders see the decision on resource control as a further marginalization of minorities living in the oil-rich southern states. “God planted oil and gas in the soil of the Niger Delta for the people to benefit maximally from it, ” stated Peter Odili, governor of Rivers State.
