South Auckland residents are protesting the establishment of a traditional Polynesian canoe club in their neighborhood. The club, Waka Ama, works with at risk youths to help them turn their lives around. Although the building will be soundproofed, residents are still worried that it will disrupt the neighborhood: bringing unsavory behavior from the reserves into their neighborhood. Waka Ama is holding public meetings to let the community know about their organization and their mission towards benefiting the community.
