The !Kung (part of the nomadic San bushmen) tribe’s land was declared a conservancy after pastoralists overgrazed and degraded the land to the point of unsustainability. Though pastoralists will not be removed from the area, the government will decrease their livestock to a manageable level so the nomadic San can live off the land. Tensions between nomads and pastoralists are expected to heighten.
