In a report published by Minority Rights International (MRG), the Namibian government was called “unable or unwilling” to help the San people whose situation has worsened since Namibia gained independence 12 years ago. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a press statement in response, rejecting the claims and calling them “gross misrepresentations of the truth.” The report points to the poverty level of the Sans - three times below the national level, the lack of effective San representation in the local government, cattle breeders’ harassment, and the marginalization of the San people.
