KENYA: Education initiatives for pastoralist children underway

A Kenyan NGO is leading efforts to promote peace-based education initiatives among some of the country's pastoralist groups. POKATUSA, an acronym for Pokot, Karamojong, Turkana and Sabei, is conducting an exchange program between schools in Kenya and Uganda, in order to broaden students' exposure to other ways of life. Educators seek to address the common violence and cattle rustling between pastoralist groups by introducing children to the negative effects of these activities, deflecting emphasis from the custom of building wealth through raids towards more peaceful opportunities.
