An interim city council and mayor of the northern city of Mosul has been elected by an assembly of more than 200 delegates, in a meeting sponsored by the United States. A retired Arab army general was elected mayor, and a Kurdish man was elected deputy mayor. Two assistant mayors were chosen from the Turkmen and Assyrian communities of the city, and Yezidi and Shabak Kurds were also represented on the 24-member city council, KurdishMedia.com reports.
