INDONESIA: Aceh peace deal in danger

The international community has issued a joint statement urging the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) and the Indonesian government to stick to the peace agreement signed on December 9, 2002. Recent events have put the agreement in jeopardy. Last week alone violent attacks in Aceh led to the deaths of nine alleged separatist rebels. Neither side claims responsibility for the recent violence, and both accuse the other of illicit attacks since the deal was signed.
