Survival International reports that authorities on the Andaman Islands are refusing to close a road that runs through the reserve of the Jarawa people. The order, coming from the India Supreme Court in 2002, ordered the removal of settlers from Jarawa land and the closure of the road that goes through their land. Unfortunately, the road remains open putting the lives of the Jarawa at risk. With the road open, contact with outsiders continues, as does their risk of catching fatal diseases to which they have no immunity. Survival International is launching a letter-writing campaign to put pressure on authorities to adhere to the ruling.
