Chief David Simon of the Pakuri Arawak recently signed the Nancy Lewis Cullity Parrot Protection Act. Guyana currently allows for the export of 30,000 parrots from the Amazon region. The Parrot Protection act is the first step taken by indigenous people in the region to protect their natural environment.
