Only days before the November 9 presidential elections, Maya, Xinca and Garifuna leaders denounced the election process and accused the Guatemalan Republican Front Party (FRG) of manipulation. According to indigenous leaders, the FRG, party representatives of current president Alfonso Portillo, and candidate Efrain Rios Montt, have threatened and intimidated voters.
