ETHIOPIA: Three Oromo Rebels Receive Long Jail Sentences

A federal court has sentenced three officers of the Oromo Liberation Front each to 22 years in prison. Pro-government news services reported that the men were convicted of fighting government troops in the western Wolega zone in the summer of 1992. In February two OLF officers were convicted of crimes dating back 20 years; one was sentenced to death and the other to life imprisonment. The Oromo Liberation Front is fighting for self-determination and autonomy for the Oromo people of southern Ethiopia.
