The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) has issued a statement referring to Colombian President Alvaro Uribe as “persona non grata” due to his treatment of Colombian indigenous people and his attempt to draw Ecuador into the Colombian civil war. As part of the U.S. funded Plan Colombia, Colombia is attempting to eradicate coca plants – spraying dangerous chemicals near the borders of Ecuador.
