The Saami singer and performer Mari Boine received the Nordic Council’s Music Prize for 2003. Previously to granting Boine this year’s prize the Council made a decision to give the prize to a musician representing multiple cultures through their work. A Norwegian citizen, Boine has been a role model for Saami in Norway, Sweden and Finland for over 25 years.
