COLOMBIA: Embera Katío celebrate agreement with government

After 159 consecutive days inside the offices of the National Organization of Indigenous Colombians (ONIC), the Embera Katío signed an agreement with the Colombian government on April 8 and then celebrated the victory in the streets of Bogotá. The agreement created a special commission to evaluate the effects caused by the construction of the Urrá dam and to determine the appropriate compensation and reparation. The agreement also said that plans for a second hydroelectric dam on the Sinú River would not be approved.
