The Inuit have recently launched a new official website that is, designed to disseminate information pertaining to their 5000 year-old history, their traditional way of life, the story of their historical contact with foreigners and the continuing struggle for recognition of their rights. Their principle goal is to tell the story of the Inuit in their own words, as most of the research about theirhistory has been undertaken by outsiders. “It is a really modern way of reaching the world and teaching the world about the Inuks of Canada,” explained Jose Kusak, president of Canada's National Inuit organization, the Inuit Tapirit Kanatami (ITK). The site is currently in English but there are plans to develop a version in their own language.
