CANADA: Environmental committee and Inuit at odds over proposed road

The Native-run Kitikmeot Corp.’s President Charlie Lyall is expected to meet with the Canadian Arctic Resources Committee in Bathurst Inlet on Thursday July 24 to discuss the location of a proposed road linking inland mine sites to the Arctic coast. The CARC wants to relocate the road to avoid a Bathurst caribou herd, but Lyall argues that the proposed road is the only way to invigorate a struggling local economy.
