CAMEROON: Mbororo meet to learn about ILO Convention 169

Hundreds of Mbororo from Yaounde met at a workshop in Etoudi on December 11 to learn about Convention 169 of the International Labour Organization. The event is one of several organized by the Mbororo Social and Cultural Development Association (MBOSCUDA) to educate the Mbororo people and increase their awareness of their rights. As part of their advocacy efforts, two MBOSCUDA representatives are currently looking for support to travel to New York for their application to obtain cosultative status to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

The Cameroon government recognizes both the Mbororos and pygmies as indigenous peoples. Mbororos make up about 12 percent of the population of Cameroon, but are discriminated against by other groups within the country.
