On November 8, youth representatives from central Africa’s Batwa population gathered in Burundi’s capital, Bujumbura, to ask the governments of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Rwanda for equal access to land, education and healthcare. The demands put forth by the Batwa are part of a larger plan to empower Batwa youth so that they will have the ability to learn about international laws to pressure their respective governments for basic rights. The Batwa have representation in the Burundi’s Senate and National Assembly.
