BRAZIL: Mata Cavalo residents accuse farmers of terrorist acts

Despite an agreement made last month by both federal and state governments designed to ensure peace in the area, tensions have only increased between residents of the Mata Cavalo community and local farmers. Members of this community claim that they are suffering from acts of terrorism, from gunshots during the night and tractors encircling the village during the day, by farmers who wish to have the land for themselves. Village residents have formed a commission to speak to the president of the Human Rights Commission, Deputy Mauro Savi, to ask for assistance in resolving this situation.
