BRAZIL: Indigenous tribes receive healthcare from team of doctors

A health expedition, funded by Kodak’s Health Imaging Group and the Brazilian Radiology Academy, will bring medical technology and supplies to the Matis, Marubo, Kanamari, and Korubo tribes of the Vale do Javari region of the Brazilian rainforest. The team will use radiological exams, ultrasounds, and blood tests to diagnose and treat contagious diseases that threaten indigenous people who, due to their isolation, lack immunities to diseases resulting from outside contact. The project was initiated by Instituto Dunas e Ventos de Expedições Médicas e Esportivas, which will be aided by the Isolated Tribes Division of the Brazilian Government's Federal Indian Bureau (FUNAI).
