Representatives of the 40 Myba-Guarani villages in Brazil petitioned the Brazilian
Ministry of Justice and National Indian Foundation (FUNAI) to create working
groups for identifying and demarcating indigenous territories during the Guarani
Coastal Territory Seminar on December 15 and 16 in São Paulo. The working
groups would help to ensure full participation by Guarani communities in demarcation
and conservation discussions. The delegates also demanded additional supervision
of indigenous lands aggravated by illegal loggers, hunters, and excessive invasions.
The Guarani Costal Territory Seminar was convened to publicly discuss the
relationship between the regulation of Guarani lands and the use and protection
of the Atlantic Forest.
