BRAZIL: Awa land demarcated on judge's order

Survival International reported this week that the land of the Awa Indians, one of the last hunter-gatherer indigenous groups in Brazil, is to be officially demarcated. A judge ordered the mapping of the Awa’s territory, which has been encroached upon by loggers, ranchers and other settlers. The Awa’s numbers have dwindled to 300, with about 60 still uncontacted, according to Survival.
