This week is the annual NAIDOC festival, which celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Our Children, Our Future.” Victoria has responded to the occasion by forming the Victorian Indigenous Youth Advisory Council. 250 youths from across the state will come together, elect twelve representatives, and advise the government and ATSIC on issues that concern them, ranging from youth suicide to language programs.
