AUSTRALIA: Debated heritage sites at the Koolyanobbing mine

WA Indigenous Affairs Minister John Kobelke approved the multimillion dollar Koolyanobbing mining expansion project on July 11. By Monday, July 14, however, claims had emerged that his department had failed to record several Aboriginal heritage sites. Kobelke maintains that the native title claimants had not found any heritage sites of significance in the proposed development area. Anthropologist Ron Parker, on the other hand, who conducted an archaeological survey of the site, found 50 sites, which he deems significant.
