ALASKA: New job possibilities for 10 Alaskan tribes

Currently pending approval by federal officials is a $59,000 one-year contract that would give 10 northeastern Alaska tribes jobs in the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge. If accepted, the contract would provide cash to the local residents, improve relations between the villages and the refuge, and be the first deal made by a tribal organization under the Indian Self-Determination and Indian Assistance Act to take over such responsibilities.
