UNITED STATES: Shoshone tribes fight for rights over Yucca Mountain

For more than 14 months, the Interior Department has not responded to requests by the Timbisha and the Duckwater Shoshone tribes seeking affected Indian tribe status. If status is granted, the tribes will have veto powers over a plan to store deadly nuclear waste in the nearby Yucca Mountain. Aside from concerns about their health, the Shoshone hold the mountain in the highest regard.
