WEST PAPUA: Lani tribe seeking ancestral permission to fight

Tribes in West Papua are holding a pig festival to consult with ancestors about their fight against the Indonesian Government’s plan to partition the province. The Lani tribe claims that Indonesia’s actions go against “the aspiration of the people and the Special Autonomy Law (No.22 of 2001).” With their ancestors’ permission, the Lani tribe will officially declare war against the plan during the festival.
