NEW ZEALAND: Maori cooperative seeks to develop under-used land

A Maori land trust has initiated a cooperative land development project in Waikato. Not only will the project provide much needed jobs, it will also bring under-used Maori land back into productivity. The project received a jumpstart from Natural Link, a biotech company, but is owned by, and will be eventually run by, the Hapu. The project is expected to be sustainable in the long run and to provide a model for the other thousands of hectares of under-used Maori land.
