NEW ZEALAND: Maori protestors removed from construction site

Maori protestors at the site of a new prison that is being constructed in Ngawha, New Zealand were led away from the site on Tuesday June 4, some in handcuffs. An appeal to the High Court will be heard this Thursday and Friday, but is not expected to succeed. Maori protestors object to the placement of the prison alongside geothermal springs known for their curative properties and which figure into local Maori history.
