On the seventh anniversary of the deaths of the Ogoni 13, including late writer and activist Ken Saro-Wiwa, Ledum Mitee, president of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), called on his people to continue their struggle for justice in Nigeria. Mitee said that taking steps to enact an Ogoni Bill of Rights and to secure fairer representation for the Ogoni in local and national government would honor the sacrifices of their fallen colleagues. “Do not think for a moment that this is something we face alone,” he said. “We are about to find ourselves at the forefront of a national struggle to elect people who are accountable to the people to positions from local government upwards to all levels in this country.”
