SUDAN : Government Attacks Unarmed Civilians

The U.S. State Department suspended all efforts at peace talks with Sudan ’s NIF regime following an attack by military helicopters in which 17 Nuer civilians were killed. The civilians were gathered in their home village to receive humanitarian aid from a UN World Food Program relief mission when the five helicopters appeared and fired rockets into the crowd. Relief workers claim they notified the government in advance of their plans to distribute aid in the area.
