Kurdish officials are promising to set up a commission to hear and resolve land and other disputes between Arabs settled in traditionally Kurdish areas and Kurdish refugees returning to their homes. Conflicts over homes and property have led to violence and forced evictions of some Arab families in the wake of the war in Iraq. The current chaos is attributed by many to Saddam Hussein’s policy of Arabization in the north, which led to the expulsion of 120,000 Kurds from their homes in northern Iraq.
