BRAZIL: Loggers and indigenous communities partner to explore sustainable forestry

Logging companies and traditional communities have joined together to create the first Certified Forest Producers Group (CFPG) in Brazil. Aiming to perpetuate forest certification throughout Amazonia, the creation of this group has provided a space for dialogue on issues of credit, public policy, sustainable forestry practices, and the certified products market. This group will be officially launched in June during a seminar on “Forest Certification in Amazonia: Progress and Opportunities.” It is hoped that Marina Silva, the Environment Minister, and Mancio Lima, president of the Bank of Amazonia, will both be in attendance.
