Catholic Bishops met this week in Montevideo, Uruguay, to start a campaign against the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). The Bishops have stated that the FTAA will only spur on neocolonialism in the Americas and be of benefit to already wealthy nations such as the US and Canada. The hardest hit victims will be local and indigenous communities who do not have the economic resources to compete in a free trade world.
