UNITED STATES: Wyoming tribes oppose drilling project

The Eastern Shoshone and the Northern Arapaho tribes sent identical letters to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) calling for a halt to drilling projects proposed for the 620,000 acre Jack Marrow Hills. The area supports a wide array of wildlife and several sacred sites. The land is also estimated to hold 150 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in addition to substantial amounts of coal and oil. The BLM, which currently plans to drill 205 wells is expected to respond later this week.
