UNITED STATES: Northwest tribe in battle with environmentalists

Conservation groups are opposing a plan to return 690,000 acres of land to the Klamath Tribe in California and Oregon. Environmentalists fear that the tribe will not protect the land sufficiently, most of which is national forest. The Klamath argue the importance of reclaiming the land as part of what was lost to settlers in 1864.
